The elegant Kristin Scott Thomas is part of the Slow Horses cast now playing on Apple TV+. Thomas, plays the impeccable MI5 agent, Diana Taverns who is willing to do anything to stay at top. But will she be able to maintain the status?

The Synopsis 

This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman, “Dark Knight”), they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces. 

I was briefly connected to Kristin Scott Thomas to talk about Slow Horses. She expressed her excitement for the series. In addition to talking about her character and the relationship with the careless agent played by Gary Oldman.

Nancy Tapia: Hi! You look lovely.

Kristin Scott Thomas: Oh, thank you. I was just admiring your hair thinking, oh, that’s nice.

Nancy Tapia: Thank you so much! So congratulations on Slow Horses.

Kristin Scott Thomas: Thank you very much.

Nancy Tapia: How excited are you to be a part of this new espionage drama?

Kristin Scott Thomas: Well, it is very exciting to be in something that is so beautifully made and just so kind of complete like this. It’s really marvelous. We’ve got an amazing cast, great script, beautifully shot, wonderful sets. It’s just, it’s what we do really well over here, make things beautifully. It’s so nice to be in something that is full of tension, humor, and character. It’s great.

Nancy Tapia: From watching the first chapter I’m curious about Taverner. Will we get to see a little bit more about her?

Kristin Scott Thomas: When you mean chapter, you mean the first episode? No?

Nancy Tapia: I watched the first six episodes.

Kristin Scott Thomas: So you saw six. Well, you’ve seen more than me because I’ve only seen three. Maybe, haha…Think I’m not allowed to say anything.

Nancy Tapia: Haha…

Kristin Scott Thomas: I’m not allowed to tell you. Well, I hope so because I’m enjoying playing her so much that I think I’m trying to make it so they can’t resist having me back.

Nancy Tapia: Smart cookie. Now, can you tell us a little bit about the relationship of your character with Lamb (Gary Oldman)?

Kristin Scott Thomas: Well, I think they’re old friends or old acquaintances, at any rate. They’re both very aware of each other. They both have information on each other. She knows things about him and he knows things about her. I think that they are the polar opposites. They’ve come up together through the ranks, and she is now number two, which is of course her major obstacle to happiness because she wants to be number one.

She despises how Jackson Lamb behaves. And she is the absolute opposite. He lets everything hang out, literally, and she literally keeps everything completely perfect. So it’s very different from me because I’m quite scruffy really. But she is completely in control of everything from the lipstick, to the skirt, to the clothing, to everything is absolutely contained. I think it’s an interesting sort of thing for a woman to play.

Nancy Tapia: Well, I look forward to seeing more. Thank you so much for your time.
