Lindelof’s Star Wars Movie Is Set After The Sequel Trilogy

Daisy Ridley confirms the script for Rey Sequel movie still not ready, however she still expects it to start filming this year or early next.

According to a new report, Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie is set after the sequel trilogy. We shared a report yesterday that Lindelof was working on a script with a co-writer and the movie would be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. That initial report came from Deadline.

However we now have a little more information on the movie from THR. First off, that the unnamed co-writer of this movie is Justin Britt-Gibson.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Lindelof is writing the new Star Wars script with Justin Britt-Gibson, a young and rising writer who worked as an executive story editor on Guillermo del Toro’s vampire drama, The Strain, and wrote episodes of Starz’s The Counterpart, a series that deals with parallel dimensions and starred J.K. Simmons.

The trade goes on to describe a secret writers room that had many contributors hashing out a pitch. That overall story is now being scripted by Lindelof and Britt-Gibson. However there is more. THR sources then go on to claim the movie will be set after the sequel trilogy and could therefore see some characters return. However, this is not a continuation of the Skywalker Saga.

Sources say the movie project is intended as a stand-alone but in success could lead to more movies. That plan goes against the grain of earlier Lucasfilm development process’, which saw the company try to come up with new trilogies. Now, the studio seems to focus on stand-alones.

And sources say that the story would take place after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although it would not be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga. It could, however, feature some of the characters from the Star Wars trilogy made in the 2010s.

Interesting, though I’m not sure it’s interesting for the right reasons to me. I did not like the sequel trilogy. The only character I really loved was Ben Solo and he’s dead. Therefore Whilst I’m not against stories set after this trilogy, I am not particularly looking forward to seeing Rey, Poe or Finn again, because as characters they mean nothing to me as a fan.

On The Cantina, Kyle Malone and I have been saying for a long time that any sequel should move further ahead in time. Kyle wants it to be like one thousand years, I’d be happy with fifty plus. All that said, I’ll always give any story in this universe a chance. Therefore, if one or more of these characters returns and they are given a better story and better development, I may change my mind.

Equally I am a fan overall of Lindelof. I loved LOST and I have watched the full show twice, (no they were not all dead). I also thought Watchmen was on of the best limited shows on TV I’ve ever seen. Though, there is Prometheus which was utter pants and written by Lindelof also. I have not watched The Leftovers but I hear great things about that show.

I guess I’m saying I’m excited to see what Lindelof and Britt-Gibson do. However I’m less excited to see any carry overs from the awful sequel trilogy. Oh, and no offence to the actors. That was never my issue, it was all on the writing for me in the ST.

What do you think of the news Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie is set after the sequel trilogy? Are you excited to see what Lindelof and Britt-Gibson are working on? As always, leave any thoughts below. So far we still have no clue when to expect this movie to go into production.
