Let’s take a moment today and talk about the Daredevil series. It is based on the Marvel superhero and was created for Netflix. This led to a few other Marvel series on the streaming giant like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and eventually The Defenders. Charlie Cox’s portrayal of “the man without fear” Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil was fantastic. This is why when it was canceled two years ago it had fans up in arms.
But today there seems to be a little bit of hope for fans of Daredevil. The Netflix and film rights to the character have expired. This means that the character could once again be used in a variety of different ways by Marvel Studios. The terms of the agreement made by Marvel and Netflix were that Marvel Studios would not be able to use the character in any television or films until a two-year hold following its cancellation.
Due to this fans have taken to social media and are asking for a series revival under Marvel Studios. Last year I would have chuckled a bit and moved on. But we are in 2020, the year when Zack Snyder was given the green light by Warner Bros. to bring back Justice League to HBO Max for a Snyder Cut. Given the popularity of the character, it would be a smart idea to bring him back as he already has an established fan base. I think that there would be two ways I would use Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Marve Cinematic Universe.
Bring Back the Series!
The first way is plain and simply to give him his series back. Along with Cox, the series featured some beloved regulars like Elden Henson’s Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, and of course Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. In theory, they could pick up where they left off. With a modified Benjamin Poindexter, played by Wilson Bethel. Think of the toybox that would now be available for Hell’s Kitchen now that they’d be under the Marvel Studios Umbrella. One that even includes former 20th Century Fox Marvel properties. No doubt this would make a lot of fans very happy.
Cameos In Upcoming MCU Disney+ Series
The other way is to slowly bring him back through the other series they are producing. Characters like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel could benefit from the presence of Matt Murdock and or Daredevil. Personally, I want to see Jennifer Walters and Matt Murdock go head to head in the courtroom. Social Media would explode if, during her series, she finds out that she has to go up against Murdock in court as a surprise episode twist. This would hopefully still lead to his own series once again.
I was a big fan of what they had accomplished with Daredevil, early Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Luke Cage for Netflix. It was a real shame to see each of them be canceled one by one. While the Avengers were always larger than life, these Defenders took care of the streets of New York. Hopefully, we’ll see them again soon!
