Marvel TV Schedule Changes And Another New Agatha Title – The Darkhold Diaries

The biggest news to drop this weekend was several Marvel TV schedule changes, including another new Agatha title, this time The Darkhold Diaries. Yep, that’s a name you’ve heard before if you read LRM Online, and I’ll explain more below. Firstly, lets get to the reports by both THR and Variety about changes to Marvel’s upcoming TV schedule on Disney+.

I’ve used Variety‘s coverage of this story, linked above, as they said a little more on the Agatha title.

Season 2 of “What If…?,” the MCU’s first animated series, will now open in December over the holiday season. The show was originally set to debut in early 2023, but has been delayed for unspecified reasons.

Echo” — a spin-off of 2021’s “Hawkeye” starring Alaqua Cox as Marvel’s first Native American and first deaf superhero — has moved from Nov. 29 to January 2024. The show is still set to release all episodes at once, the first binge release for a Marvel Cinematic Universe series on Disney+.

X-Men ’97,” an update of the popular animated “X-Men” series from the 1990s, has moved from a fall 2023 release to early 2024.

And finally, the “WandaVision” spin-off “Agatha” — starring Kathryn Hahn as disgraced witch Agatha Harkness — is now pegged to debut in the fall of 2024, likely around the Halloween season. The show, which completed filming before the SAG-AFTRA strike, was originally announced with the title “Agatha: House of Harkness”; then in July 2022, Marvel studio chief referred to the show as “Agatha: Coven of Chaos.” But now the show’s title seems to be “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” — though a source with knowledge of the show says that the changing titles are less a sign of indecision on Marvel’s part and more a suggestion that Agatha is up to her old skulduggery.

I’ll refer specifically to the last sentence there. A source suggest the title changes are not a sign of indecision on Marvel”s part. Look, if this is marketing, it’s rubbish marketing and anyone who works on the internet can tell you why. A change of title almost instantly destroys all the thousands of news articles about a project. After that no one searches for the old name. Therefore, the source may have said this, but I refuse to buy it’s planned.

What I will point out, is that, yes you have heard this title before. Here is a video from one of the stars Aubrey Plaza from way back when filming was taking place. This video was then shared online everywhere by fans.

That was May 17th and we covered it at the time. However, far as we knew, the title, which had just been announced by a Disney Exec, was Coven of Chaos. Ergo, I (and many in this business) wondered if these would be alternative titles used within the show itself? That, I would have zero issue with. However, to actually announce three separate titles for a show is just completely ludicrous, whether they appear in the show or not.

Once again, I just don’t know what’s happening at Marvel right now? Post Endgame they just seem to make bad call after bad call.

Let us know what you think of these latest Marvel TV schedule changes. What do you think of the change of title to Agatha: The Darkhold Diaries? Thoughts below as always.
