Never meddle with someone who may or may not have certain superpowers they cannot control.

From director Andre Ovredal, who gave us Trollhunter and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Mortel follows a homeless man who wanders aimlessly not understanding certain super-abilities he manifested from a tragic incident.

The cast includes Nat Wolff (The Stand, Paper Towns), Iben Akerlie (Victoria, In the Sea), Per Frisch (Farewell Illusions, Pyromaniac), Per Egil Aske (Junk Mail), and Priyanka Bose (Lion, Johnny the Traitor). The story is by Ovredal with Norman Lesperance and Geoff Bussetil.

Here’s the synopsis of Mortal:

In this spellbinding thriller, a sleepy Norwegian town erupts after an American backpacker, Eric, is arrested. Witnesses claim a teen died after touching the stranger, and that he inexplicably started a fire that engulfed a farm. He warns a psychologist, Christine, that he has supernatural powers, and that anyone who gets too close to him dies. Is Eric a liar, a freak of nature, or an angry god? Determined to find the truth, Christine draws nearer, and what she finds is beyond her wildest imaginings.

Mortal plays in select theaters, On Demand and Digital starting this Friday, November 6. On November 10, the film will be available on Blu-ray.

The first clip from the film has Eric (Nat Wolff) harassed by a group of teenagers, who thought he was a wandering homeless man. One of the teens tried to instigate a fight with Eric, but dies mysteriously and suddenly. The clip doesn’t reveal too much except for the mystery with Eric, but definitely do check out the following trailer too.
