New His Dark Materials Novella Hitting From Author Philip Pullman This November

His Dark Materials is getting a new novella.

It’s been a great few years to be a His Dark Materials fan. Back in 2017, Philip Pullman released La Belle Sauvage, the first volume in His Dark Materials companion series The Book of Dust hit. Last year saw its second volume, The Secret Commonwealth, hit. And that same year, the His Dark Materials TV series started its run on HBO and BBC. If you worried 2020 would be a year with no new book, then I have good news for you.

In celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary, there is a brand-new story hitting bookstores this year. According to Penguin Books UK, they will be publishing a novella called Serpentine on October 15 of this year! Sadly, there are no plot details surrounding this new release, but we do know one thing. It will link together the His Dark Materials trilogy The Book of Dust.

The Book of Dust, by Philip Pullman

If you were hoping for a full-length novel, though, you may be a bit disappointed. According to Waterstones’ official website, this small hardcover edition will only clock in at about 80 pages in length. But if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll know this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this. This particular book looks like it’d fit quite nicely next to stories Lyra’s Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North, which were similarly short tales.

Regardless of its length, if you’re a fan of the novel series, this is one you can’t miss. While I have yet to read The Secret Commonwealth, I will definitely be picking this bad boy up. I’ve always been a fan of this world and the mature edge Pullman gives his stories.
