Producer Kevin Downes knew instantaneously that the extraordinary true story of a heroic community helping a child during a snowstorm to a path surgery must be made into a film with Ordinary Angels.
The real-life story was inspired by Sharon Stevens Evans, who rallied the community of Louisville, Kentucky, to save a toddler named Michelle Schmitt, who desperately needed a liver transplant.
The story unfolded in an unbelievable way as the angels were sent from heaven for a miracle.
The cast included Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don’t Cry), Alan Ritchson (Reacher, Fast X), and Nancy Travis (The Kominsky Method).
Jon Gunn directed the film from the screenplay written by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig.
Here is the official synopsis:
Based on a remarkable true story, Ordinary Angels centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it.
