Orlando Bloom Expresses Excitement Over Lord Of The Rings Amazon Series

Orlando Bloom talks the Lord of the Rings Amazon series.

The Lord of the Rings still stands tall as one of the greatest trilogies ever put to film. It took an unfilmable book and turned it into an undeniable classic. Even all these years later, its storytelling and visual effects hold up as well as they did back in the early 2000s. Even the prequel Hobbit series couldn’t hold a candle to what the original trilogy did. As such, revisiting Middle-earth for another round seemed like a foolish thing to do.

And yet, that is exactly what Amazon is doing with their Lord of the Rings series. While they aren’t revisiting the timeline of the original trilogy, they will be fleshing out Middle-earth in a story that takes place during the Second Age. However, it sounds like the show has captured the attention of one franchise alum: Orlando Bloom.

“One of the producers on that, I’m working with quite closely on a few different projects I’m developing for Amazon, because I’ve got this first-look deal, and he’s working with Amazon on that, producing that show, so he’s on the ground over there right now,” Bloom told Collider. “And I kinda had a few questions for him to begin with, and then I was like, you know what? I don’t need to know anymore. It’s not, obviously, a remake, it’s actually not based on the Fellowship or any of that, so I think it could be really, really interesting, from that perspective.”

Bloom went on to recall life during the set of The Lord of the Rings.

“I remember being on set with [director] Peter [Jackson] and him saying, ‘Can you imagine the day they do a remake of this movie?’ And then, here we are, 20 years later,” Bloom said. “But it’s not a remake and The Lord of the Rings is a title for a world, but I think it’s gonna be interesting from that perspective because, I think if it was gonna be a remake, you’re gonna take us back into Hobbiton and try and tell us what we saw? It was such an informative time that’s had such an impact and so it’s different, what’s coming, and I think that’s a good thing. It’ll be interesting. I’m gonna fan it up for sure. [Eating] popcorn, streaming.”

I’m sure plenty of us will be joining Bloom once the fantasy series starts its run on Amazon Prime Video. Given just how definitive that original trilogy is, they realized right away that they couldn’t just regurgitate the same story. Instead, they’ve dived into the mythology of Middle-earth and come up with a completely unique story that should fit in with the world’s overall canon.

As someone who hasn’t been able to consume those historical texts published outside of The Lord of the Rings narrative (I avoided the appendices too), I’m excited to see it all realized in a much more entertaining fashion.
