Oscars Won’t Have A Host For Second Year In A Row

Last year was an interesting one for the Oscars. At first, ABC had locked down comedian Kevin Hart, but after a series of old tweets he made fell under scrutiny, they pretty much threw him under the bus. What followed was pretty much everyone else talking about how thankless of a job it was, and it all culminated in absolutely nothing happening.

The Oscars went forward without a host, and while it wasn’t perfect, it did seem like the show was a step up from what had come before. That led to rumors that the network was contemplating doing the same thing for this year. As it turns out, that’s exactly what’s happening.

“Together with the Academy, we have decided there will be no traditional host, repeating for us what worked last year,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said at the TV Critics Association press tour. “[It will have] huge entertainment values, big musical numbers, comedy and star power.”

Well, I can’t exactly argue with results. Hopefully, they can continue the positive trend set by last year’s show, but we’ll see what ends up happening.
