I really enjoyed Titanfall and its sequel, so naturally, I assumed at some point we would get Titanfall 3? Alas, it doesn’t look like Titanfall 3 will happen anytime soon. That’s if we are to listen to Vince Zampella, and we should because he is the boss of Respawn who made the Titanfall games.
Respawn were also the devs behind Apex Legends and most recently Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Recently, we heard news that Star Wars Jedi was to become a game franchise. Presumably therefore, Respawn are hard at work on a sequel to Fallen Order? Zampella recently spoke with IGN about everything Respawn, and whilst he teased a new shooter could be coming, he confirmed it won’t be Titanfall 3. Firstly, Zampella talks integrating DICE LA into their own studio, and given them an identity.
“That team is a shooter team,” Zampella said. “Chances are it’s going to be something along those lines.” He cited veteran talent from Battlefield projects and DICE who already work there, and continued: “There’s a lot of really good shooter talent there. But I don’t want to lock it in and say that’s definitely exactly what they’re doing, because we’re going to look at everything and pick something that feels amazing.”
“The same tenets that apply to Respawn of doing something new and exciting and kind of breaking the genre a little bit is what we’re going to apply to DICE LA. We’re going to look at trying to do something cool.” He added, “We want to do something that’s not competitive with other EA games so that we’re kind of filling in the right gaps in the portfolio. We have some really good ideas, but it’ll be a little bit [before they make any announcements].”

Talk of shooters clearly led the interviewer to ask about the Titanfall franchise. However, Zampella makes it pretty clear there is nothing planned right now.
“There’s nothing currently in development,” he said. “But it’s always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.”
To be honest this sucks, but it isn’t a surprise. Titanfall, was a MP only game and it was actually one of the best MP games out there when it first released. So much so, that Call of Duty stole most of Titanfall ideas for their own games. Titanfall 2 met with critical acclaim, it had a really amazing campaign mode this time, but for me, the MP side wasn’t as good. Titanfall 2 didn’t sell in the way other Respawn games have, and that’s probably why it’s not currently being fast-tracked.
I would love to see a Titanfall 3 appear eventually, but definitely on the next generation of consoles. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Zampella and co. get to it one day. What do you think of this news, were you hoping for a Titanfall 3? Share your thoughts below in the usual spot.
