Ralph Breaks The Internet Double Take: Great Fun For Children And Adults

As one of many parents who made their way to the movie theater this past Thanksgiving weekend, I knew full well that Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born and Creed II would not be appropriate picks for our little guys. So, the choice was made and Ralph Breaks The Internet was the preferred choice. Before entering,  I expected a continuation from where Wreck-It Ralph left off. What I ended up getting was so much more.

Ralph Breaks The Internet makes up for the gap in time, making it clear that our main characters Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) have remained the closest of friends since the events of the previous film. When Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush faces an expensive repair that threatens the game’s removal from the arcade, Ralph and Vanellope must journey to the internet (through the arcade owner’s newly installed WiFi) in order to journey to E-Bay and find the part they need to repair Sugar Rush. However, this journey ends up threatening the friendship when our connected-at-the-hip best friends are faced with decisions involving their dreams and what they are destined to be.

Reilly and Silverman once again shine as Ralph and Vannellope, showing that the two have grown extremely close since their first adventure. This time around, they are joined by talents like Gal Gadot, Taraji P. Henson, Alfred Molina, and Ed O’Neill, as well as Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, reprising their roles as the now married Felix and Calhoun, respectively. Writers Phil Johnston and Pamela Ribon, along with director Rich Moore, did a spectacular job in presenting a story filled with humor that appeals to young children as well as teens and adults who are familiar with the landscape of the world wide web, social media and online commerce. Moreover, they created an emotional arch that touches on that moment that affects everyone: the altering of a friendship. The script features that moment where characters are given the opportunity to live their dreams, but must accept the strain that is applied to their friendship if they choose to chase their dreams.

Evenly blended with heartstring-tugging feelings and laugh out loud humor, as well as plenty of Disney easter eggs featuring elements from Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and vintage Disney stories (including some beautifully executed, memorable moments with Disney’s Princesses), Ralph Breaks The Internet is an exquisite film. It is not only a well-balanced sequel that rivals the original, but also a compelling story that places a spotlight on what makes a strong friendship and whether it can survive life-changing elements. So, when you get the time after work or your next day off, grab your family, get tickets at your nearest theater, find your seats, share your status on all your social media accounts and enjoy the touching adventure that is Ralph Breaks The Internet.

Side note: if you consider yourself an internet aficionado, you need to stay in your seat past the final credits. You won’t be disappointed.
