A couple nights ago at a stage event, actor Mark Hamill made the following comment to the crowd regarding STAR WARS:
“I finish Episode VIII, and then I’m out of work.â€
Needless to say, speculation ran rampant on the internet. Did this statement imply that Luke Skywalker would meet an untimely end in STAR WARS EPISODE VIII? Perhaps Luke goes off somewhere and simply won’t be back for EPISODE IX. Or maybe, we’re just reading into things to much.
In a recent tweet from Hamill, he cleared the air:
I meant “out of work” because #Ep8 is wrapping soon, OK? #DontOverThinkEVERYTHING #ParsingHamill #WaitForVIII https://t.co/5CIJ5Gqo99

Through this tweet, Hamill is essentially stating that by “out of work,” he means out of work for the time being. As of now, STAR WARS EPISODE IX is still about three years (and three STAR WARS films) away from its release, so it’s a good while before he can even think about returning to the STAR WARS set.
Actors tend to think in terms of upcoming projects, and as far as Hamill is concerned, EPISODE VIII wrapping will leave him out of work for some time — at least on the STAR WARS front.
