Have you seen those Resident Evil movies? Have you played the Resident Evil games? Both fall into different ends of the quality spectrum for me. The movies were absolute garbage as far as I am concerned. They somehow managed to have worse plots and characters than a video game from the PS1 era. Impressive in itself.
The games, are on the whole very well made, but the first I time played Resident Evil and its sequel, I immediately thought what a great movie series it would be. I have to say up-front I rarely like zombie movies, but I did like the story of the games. I felt like the take was unique enough (at the time) for an action horror movie series. Even better a TV show, but they wouldn’t have the budget for that. Not back then.
Fast forward to 2020 and Netflix have plans to turn Resident Evil into a show. Now, a report from Redanian Intelligence (good hit rate for The Witcher and Wheel of Time shows), says that filming is set to begin on Resident Evil this June. Not only that but they say the first season will be eight episodes of hour length. Whilst this is not official, this does make sense, as we know it’s coming. I would guess that announcements will coincide with the release of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake, due in early April this year.

Can we finally get a decent video game adaptation? Can we burn those movies from our memory and just start again? Racoon City, Umbrella Corps, and some actual mystery and detective work. Not just stunt people doing backflips on Zombies.
