Rogue Squadron And Feige’s Star Wars Movie Reportedly Shelved

Director Patty Jenkins says she's still writing Rogue Squadron and she owes Disney a submitted script.

The latest news is that both Rogue Squadron and Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie have reportedly been shelved. There were at least four Star Wars movie we knew were in some kind of development. Therefore what was four has now become two if we listen to Variety. The trade reports that both these movies have been shelved. If so that leaves only the movies by Damon Lindelof (producer) and Taika Waititi (writer/director).

Feige’s Star Wars movie was never announced officially. However it was real, and we have quotes to back that up from Michael Waldron who was writing it for Feige. Rogue Squadron though is a different situation. The movie was announced with quite a bit of fanfair a few years ago under director Patty Jenkins. However even prior to this report, we knew Rogue Squuadron was having development issues.

Most fans figured we’d never see Rogue Squadron. However Patty herself had said most recently that she was still developing the movie. One therefore wonders whether it is just being shelved temporarily or whether this will just disappear like so many other Star Wars projects in the last 4 years?

As for Feige’s movie here is what the trade had to say.

Meanwhile, Variety has learned that a possible “Star Wars” feature produced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is also no longer in active development at Lucasfilm.

I think the key point with Feige seems to be time and focus. He’s got to right the MCU ship from it’s first real wobble period. Therefore perhaps right now is not the best time to be focusing elsewhere? I dare say if Feige had a great idea, he has the power to make this happen, one day. However that does not appear to be anytime soon, if at all.

Variety goes on to discuss the other two movies we know about. Those being a Taika Waititi directed movie he is penning with Kirsty Wilson-Cairns, and the previously mentioned Damon Lindelof produced movie. Lindelof’s project will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. However which one is first, the trade do not say. They even admit there could be a project no one knows about in the mix.

What does seems clear is that the next Star Wars movie will be announced at this years Star Wars Celebration event in London.

What do you think of the latest news that both Rogue Squadron and Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie have reportedly been shelved? Thoughts below as always.
