RUMOR: George Lucas Returns To Star Wars As Cassian Andor Executive Producer & Writer

Here’s some news that will likely once again start an argument between Star Wars fans. There’s been a lot of back-and-forth about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but we can’t forget about the others in the works. The other looming project is one that followed Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor.  Now, things may have gotten a lot more interesting, and it involves George Lucas.

That’s Right. According to Illuminerdi, franchise creator George Lucas is set to return as writer and executive producer of the upcoming Cassian Andor series set to air on Disney+. There are no specific details as to how this came about, but Lucas’ return does seem like quite the random, out-of-left-field report. You may even doubt the report altogether, and I wouldn’t blame you. But that’s not all we have to report.

One of LRM Online‘s own source gave us a similar scoop a couple of days ago, saying that Lucasfilm was trying to get Lucas on board for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It sounded outlandish to us though, and we were unable to find a second source, so we sat on it. Apparently for good reason. We’re re-checking in with our source now, but at the very least, it seems clear that Lucas is running around Lucasfilm right now, be it for Cassian Andor or another reason. For fans who want Lucas to return to the franchise, this is probably a good sign.

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters, the fandom has only seemed to split further and further apart. The Last Jedi made things even worse, and at this point, you have lots of fans pining over the Prequel Trilogy. One has to imagine that this, at least partially, has something to do with this move from Lucasfilm.

But is this a concern? It’s hard to say. After all, Lucas isn’t exactly known for his writing chops or directing. The silver lining here is that he should be around other creatives who can step in and counterbalance is more awkward ideas. At least, that’s the hope. But you never know in this industry.
