Okay, So Is The Obi-Wan Disney+ Series Canceled? We Update

UPDATE: So, TheWrap is reporting this as a hoax, but that’s based on another source that apparently reported it — a parody account. But that is not where we got the initial story from. That being said, it does seem to point to the story not necessarily being true.

The initial source has updated their story, saying the show is delayed, not canceled, and YouTuber Grace Randolph is saying the same and that there is some drama behind the scenes that could lead to cancelation.

For our part, we have a source who has stated the show is canceled. This source has been proven more than once in the past, but given the number of contradicting sources from other outlets, I’m inclined to lean toward a delay for now.

It is worth mentioning that official statements from studios and reps can be flat-out lies. Just throwing that out there. I’m not saying they are, but I’m not usually inclined to believe studios and reps these days, when in the past, they have lied to protect their interests.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Well, this is quite the interesting potential development. It’s been nearly a month since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker came out and a bit less since The Mandalorian ended its first season. While the film wasn’t very well received, a lot of fans really enjoyed what The Mandalorian brought to the table, leading many to believe that the future of the franchise was not on the big screen, but on the small screen. Sadly, it sounds like at least one of their plans for the small screen has fallen through.

According to a rumor from Fandomwire, Disney has canceled the Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff show. The show was set to have Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the exiled Jedi, and one of the Mandalorian directors, Deborah Chow, was even on board to direct. There was no reason given for the reported cancelation, but The Mandalorian was said to be safe, along with the Cassian Andor series and a rumored Doctor Aphra series.

Of course, as with all rumors, be sure to take this one with a grain of salt, as outlets have been led astray by sources in the past — this outlet included. Additionally, Lucasfilm is going through a lot of changes on the heels of the main saga’s ending, so something that appears one way one day can easily switch it up the next.

If this is true, however, it’s quite unfortunate. I’m usually not one to root for more deep dives into the past, but an Obi-Wan Kenobi show is one that I would have actually been interested in — if we had to stick with the familiar.
