Right up front I will say this article contains some pretty major SPOILERS for Secret Invasion Episode 2, so back out know if you’ve not seen Episode 2 and don’t want spoilers. The question we are answering (with quotes from the director) is, does Nick Fury know his wife is a Skrull?
For me, I feel like the show answered this question within the runtime of the episode itself. However I’ll also admit it was shot in such a way that it could be confusing for some viewers.
The reason within the show we know the answer to this question is, Priscilla is in the opening scene of the episode. We see a female Skrull bring Gravik to Nick and she tell’s Nick his backstory. That character is Fury’s future wife. So the idea that Fury isn’t aware of this just doesn’t get past stage 1. However, the truth is some fans won’t have noticed this character is the same person because to us humans, Skrulls kinda look alike. I know, I’m so speciest with that comment. It’s also the very start of the Episode and then Fury’s wife Priscilla doesn’t appear again until the very end.

Just in case there was any confusion, Secret Invasion director Ali Selim has confirmed Fury is fully aware he married an alien, in the script. What’s more, that relationship will create drama for Fury as the series progresses. Check out Selim’s comments when he spoke with Deadline recently. However, interestingly, and I hope this does not go this way, Selim says the way it’s shot could be interpreted either way.
“In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn’t know. We ultimately edited it in a way that made people feel like, ‘I wonder if he knows or not,’” director Ali Selim told Deadline. “I can’t tease anything forward about his wife. The conversation in the lobby after the premiere the other night was, ‘Does he know she’s a Skrull? Or does he not?’ And I think either way works.”
“I think his wife is a support and a complication, and I think you will learn interesting things about their relationship…going forward,” Selim said. “But ultimately, that is the personal issue that he needs to confront to make this make sense to him.”
If it’s in the script he does, then he does as far as I am concerned. Despite what viewers missed, as I state above, I think it’s very plainly obvious Nick and Priscilla have had a relationship since back then.
Does it Work?
I personally thought the reveal was a great little surprise and I loved the way it was shown to us as viewers. When you watch back that opening scene, you can sense the familiarity and closeness between Priscilla (Skrull name unknown) and Fury. However, we don’t really understand the depth of that connection until the final scene. There could also be some confusion by the fact that Priscilla is in her natural Skrull form before Fury enters. Then by the time he finds her in the house she looks like a Human.
It was a great touch and I totally see why it was shot that way. We’re supposed to have paid attention to the start of the Episode. Yet clearly some fans did not and the director was asked the question and explained. I never honestly had any inkling that Fury might not know, it would seem really out of character. However, I can see why some fans might have been slightly confused. I guess Selim is just teasing when he suggests perhaps Fury might not know in the end. I mean, they can hardly reshoot it now can they? So, does Nick Fury know his wife is a Skrull? Yes, the director just doesn’t want to kill the buzz here.

I can’t wait to see more of Priscilla and her relationship with Fury. Kinda also makes a lot of sense why there are no kids to complicate the situation. It does seem unlikely having kids would be possible for the pair. They also must be used to spending a lot of time apart for a couple. Fury has been living in space for the last few years we are told, so is he in the dog house? I am also starting to wonder if we will find out that Fury and Priscilla were like a mother and father at times to Gravik? It makes him a more believable villain. Now we would see why Gravik viewed Fury’s absence as a personal betrayal to him. Though, I’m speculating wildly here, so this may not come to pass.
Does Nick Fury know his wife is a Skrull? Absolutely, and it adds a fresh aspect to Secret Invasion I love. Let us know what you think of this news? Drop us a note below, as always.
