So as per Deadline, Sony are making an El Muerto Spidey movie starring some dude called Bad Bunny. These are words that I never thought I”d type out and wish I never had. Let’s get into the details from the trade shall we?

Looking to continue to expand and diversify its universe of Marvel characters, Sony has announced a El Muerto movie is in development with Latin Grammy winner and platinum-selling recording artist Bad Bunny attached to star. The news came out of Cinemacon during Sony’s panel where Bad Bunny made a surprise appearance.

The character of El Muerto aka Juan Carlos was a super powered wrestler who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison. After his oppressor El Dorado came to claim his life, he was saved by Spider-Man, after which the two team up to defeat Dorado.

Talk about deep cuts. I seriously have many issues with this. As an avid Spider-Man fan I’d say I’ve read more Spidey comics than any other in my days and I never came across this El Muerto. I’m not against the idea of bringing someone obscure into a movie. I am against giving that character their own movie in what feels to me like another cynical move from Sony. Evidence suggests Sony will continue to pump out these sub-standard and low budget Spider-Less films, both to keep the pennies dribbling in, and to also hold onto the rights.

Some may say that certain fans said the same thing about the Guardians of the Galaxy? Well, two things. One, I’m guessing more people had heard of the Guardians than El Muerto, I certainly had. Two, this is from Sony who just pooped out Morbius, and Guardians was from the MCU.

I also have issues with a lead star being named Bad Bunny. Perhaps that’s because I’m in my 40’s and not down with the kids. I can only imagine meeting Mr. Bunny at some point and being introduced, I would 100% laugh assuming that was a joke until someone corrected me. Maybe my kids think it’s a cool name? Anyway that’s on me and I mean no offence. At one point I considered changing my name to Princess Banana Hammock /s.

So, no Sony. You have a huge franchise with plenty of big characters and you are swinging at the strangest things for no discernible reason. I do not care for an El Meurto movie starring a dude called Bad Bunny. Get in the sea Sony and keep swimming, please. Nothing against you Mr. Bunny, you were fine in Narcos: Mexico but that was a tiny part in a big ensemble cast.
