Between all the talk about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian, this truly has been a month of Star Wars, both for better and for worse. We got the ending of an entire saga as well as an ending to the first season of the franchise’s first live-action series, and while the former was debatable in my mind, I daresay the latter was mostly successful.
On the whole, I think I enjoyed The Mandalorian a lot less than most people seem to have, but I still think it was an entertaining watch with a lot of good stuff to enjoy. For the season finale, perhaps one of the most unexpected pleasures was the first few minutes of Episode 8, which showed us a pair of Stormtroopers engaged in a few minutes of relatable ennui.

But that wasn’t the only funny thing they had going for them. They also hesitate to contact Moff Gideon about picking up Baby Yoda because they heard he’d just rolled in and killed a bunch of his own men for no reason, and opted to just wait it out until the baddie cooled down a bit.
The entire scene felt like creator Jon Favreau had taken out a page of Red vs. Blue, the long-running webseries from Rooster Teeth, that started off as sort of a fourth-wall-breaking show that pokes fun at Halo and has us experiencing an unending amount of boredom along with pointless conflict.
This scene in The Mandalorian seems to be the closest the entire Star Wars franchise has gotten to acknowledging some of the more ridiculous aspects of the universe in which they inhabit.
