Star Wars – Carrie Fisher’s Brother Credits J.J. Abrams For Leia Returning In Episode 9

With the still untitled Star Wars: Episode 9 announcing its cast list a couple days ago, fans learned that both Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher will appear in the film in some capacity. Carrie Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, credits J.J. Abrams as one of the bigger reasons his sister will appear in the film. You can check out what Fisher said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter below.

“J.J. [Abrams] really made this happen. If I was in any way an inspiration for the final decision to keep Leia a part of the story, that’s great. I must say at times I felt like a voice crying in the wilderness.”

For me, and I assume many other fans, recasting was never an option. The role is too iconic and personally I would have chosen a limited CGI Leia over another actress stepping into the role. What exactly J.J. Abrams plans to do with the character remains to be seen. While we know very little about Episode 9, Hamill and Fisher likely won’t have a lot of screen time, though their roles may loom large in the overall plot (this is of course speculation on my part), as we have heard lately the upcoming film will close out the Skywalker saga.
