Star Wars: John Boyega Not Keen On Finn & Rose’s Subplot In The Last Jedi

I know how you all feel. Not nearly enough ink has been consumed discussing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In the canon of Star Wars, it remains the least-discussed of the entire franchise, as most viewers agree unanimously that it was the greatest film to hit since The Empire Strikes Back. Luckily, there is someone out there who dares to be critical about the most-beloved movie in the series.

I’m talking about John Boyega, who famously plays Finn, the Stormtrooper who went rogue against the First Order. Boyega has been vocal about his disappointment with how Finn was treated in The Last Jedi, and in THR’s Hollywood Remixed podcast, he doubles down on that criticism.

In the interview, he said he “liked the idea of Rian having his own take on something that was quite important, and I liked the idea of these characters being challenged and separated and stressed, like everyone was just trying to get to each other. That excited me. I will be honest in saying that I think they could’ve done better [by] Finn, especially with Finn and Rose.”

That being said, it does sound like his disappointment mostly stemmed from the characters mostly being separated from the rest of the group.

“I think some of it was selfish on my part, too. But in general, all of us – me, Daisy [Ridley], Oscar [Issac] – because we just wanted to be with each other.”

Well, I think we can all understand that desire, and at the end of the day, no further criticism can be levied at what is objectively the best Star Wars movie to date.
