Star Wars: Snoke’s Backstory Sounds Like A Third Grade Book Report

The Star Wars sequel trilogy is enjoyable, but not a masterpiece especially with Supreme leader Snoke. While it was heavy on action and entertainment it lack cohesiveness between the movies. Mainly due to the lack of planning and collaboration between JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson we were left with more questions at the end of the trilogy. One of the biggest questions among fans was who exactly was Snoke and what was his purpose for the First Order. Well, we got the answer but it sucks.

Theories have gone rampant about who Snoke actually was and how powerful he was. Arguments have taken place on social media whether Snoke was a true clone of Palpatine or just a science experiment gone horribly wrong. Out of all the major characters in the sequel trilogy, Snoke had the least amount of camera time but biggest frustration among fans.  First introduced in The Force Awakens, the only scenes we had with him was a giant sized hologram projection on Starkiller Base. It wasn’t until The Last Jedi where we actually saw Snoke in the flesh only to be surprisingly executed by Kylo Ren. Then in The Rise of Skywalker there is a brief glimpse of clone versions of Snoke still in a vat, then the reveal that Palpatine was the voice behind Snoke.

Snoke

The character of Snoke made absolutely no sense whatsoever to me in the trilogy. If Snoke had never made an appearance it wouldn’t have bothered me at all with the story. Based on only the movies Snoke’s mystery was that he was just a puppet for Palpatine and couldn’t even see his own death by Kylo Ren.

Well, thanks to The Star Wars Book released through DK we have some better idea of how powerful Snoke’s was. And it doesn’t make any sense at all.

In the section on Snoke, it is said that he was a Force user of impressive power…

“Snoke senses the coming of Rey as an awakening in the Force. He is disappointed by First Order leader Kylo Ren’s inability to stop her. He goads Ren, all to push the darkness in him. Snoke who is ordinarily extremely cognizant of Ren’s thoughts and motives doesn’t foresee that Ren will outmaneuver him.”

So, Snoke was so powerful that he could sense Rey’s ability in the Force and Kylo Ren’s thoughts.  But didn’t realize that a lightsaber right next to him was turning and about to chop him in half. What get’s me is this part here…

“It’s possible Snoke himself may not know his true nature. Snoke is a strandcast- an artificial genetic contruct conceited by the resurrected Darth Sidious to be his proxy in power.”

This basically means that Snoke had no clue who made him, where he came from, or what his purpose was… To me that is a lazy way of explaining his mysterious past.  They should of just called him a puppet and I would have been okay with that. I am sorry but this sounds like a third grader came up with this backstory. This is what happens when there is no collaboration between movie writers and directors.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars and enjoy the sequel trilogy. But I can understand the frustration that so many people have with these movies.  There are still so many questions left unanswered that we may never be fully happy with them.
