Star Wars: The Mandalorian – Giancarlo Esposito On Destroying Dark Saber Props And The Deeper Dive Into Myth We’ll See In Season 2

The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action television series set in a galaxy far, far away was a huge success. The team behind the show is hard on work on a second season that will hit Disney+ later this year. The first season was loved by many a Star Wars fan, the space western did much to help heal the broken fanbase.

At the end of the first season, Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon revealed he had a lightsaber, and not just any lightsaber, the fabled dark saber, which is fitted with a black blade. Esposito recently spoke with ComingSoon.net and talked about wielding the mythical weapon and how the series will dive deeper into the myths and lore that surround it, you can check out what he had to say below.

“I am. I really am. I want to say I’ve destroyed quite a few of them and the prop guys go, ‘Wow, you go all in.”

Esposito continued:

“This season is going to be really great. This is the ultimate space western that’s so connected to things that we don’t know and don’t see. Originally George Lucas had a mentor and friend in Joseph Campbell. Joseph Campbell was all about the power of myth and the journey of the hero. Isn’t every one of our journeys the journey of the hero? We have our own hurdles to jump over and our own visions on our head that we want to hit. I was thinking the other day about all the things in my life that I haven’t done. And will I be disappointed at the end if I haven’t done them? And what’s the flipside to that – I’ve done so many of my visions and dreams of what I’ve wanted to do and if I miss a couple on the bucket list I’m not going to be upset about that. But a lot of people haven’t checked off one or two or three.”

While the series was pretty fairly grounded, as far as Star Wars goes, we did see displays of the Force by The Child, better known as Baby Yoda, and with the dark saber revelation at the end of  Season 1, I hope the show is heading down a path that will feature more Force-sensitive individuals.

I really like Esposito”s character and the way he plays it. Also, the speed in which Disney put the upcoming season into production shows how much they believe in the series. The connections Esposito spoke of are intriguing, and I am hopeful we will see some of them revealed in Season 2.
