Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Confirmed To Take Place A Year After Last Jedi

In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley says she's ready for a Rey return in the upcoming Star Wars sequel currently in development.

Star Wars may be a franchise that was inspired by serials of ye old times, but unlike serials, they didn’t tend to pick up exactly where their predecessors left off. In fact, more often than not, months and years tend to pass in between them, with the Prequel films tended to have the biggest gaps, with the biggest being between Episodes I and II (not counting gaps between trilogies).

The big outlier here is the gap between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In this case, there was absolutely no time jump, which is very uncommon. This led to a lot of speculation as to what the time jump could be between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Early rumors had it pegged at around five years, and newer ones closer to a year.

In a new cover piece from Vanity Fair, it was revealed that The Rise of Skywalker will indeed take place about a year or so after the Last Jedi, which is probably for the best. A year allows some pretty big events to happen without us having to get completely reintroduced to the main cast from basically zero.
