While the entire world seems to be falling apart, things seem to be going fairly strong in the world of Brandon Sanderson. The prolific author continues to be damn prolific as he makes his way through The Stormlight Archive and its fourth book, Rhythm of War. It was only last week that author Brandon Sanderson gave us an update on the book’s progress. I’m not kidding. On June 23, he posted that he was 40% through the fifth draft. Now, we have another update.

Sanderson posted to social media on Wednesday, and the update is pretty substantial. According to him, he is now 70% of the way through the fifth draft of the novel. That’s right. Sanderson managed to churn through 30% of the book in just over a week. And we can’t forget that these are 400,000-word tomes.

While there is no exact science to the length of the novel, that likely means he’s through perhaps close to finishing part four of the book. But given that we still have to take the epilogue into account in regards to the length of the book, it’s hard to gauge just how far we have left. That being said, given Sanderson’s pace, we won’t have to worry for more than a week or two. Whether or not draft five of Rhythm of War will be the final one will remain to be seen. However, even if there are more to come, it would make sense if each successive draft would require less time. 

Make no mistake, the book looks like it’ll be plenty ready for its publication this November.

Rhythm of War is the fourth novel in the Stormlight Archive series. The series itself will run for a planned 10 novels. However, this fourth book is the second to last one in the first five-part arc. Rhythm of War hits bookstores on November 17, 2020.
