The Batman To Utilize Same Unreal Engine Tech Used On The Mandalorian

The Batman is finally in production. I’ll admit, I actually thought it was already in production. With set photos of Colin Farrell and Robert Pattinson on a bike, it seemed like that was obvious, but I guess NOW is the official start of production. And as exciting as that is, what’s more exciting are the little details we have regarding the actual production and the technology it uses.

The man reporting this is TheWrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, who confirmed that the same tech used on The Mandalorian will be used on The Batman. Take a look at the tweet down below.

“With today being the first day of the start of principal photography on #TheBatman here is a cool tidbit, the production is using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine that was used on #TheMandalorian to provide on-set visual information for the actors & filmmakers.”

For those not in the know, the tech used is essentially green screen…without the green. Instead of green, they actually are able to project a legit background scenery in real-time, making it look like they’re actually outside, without actually having to pay for a whole crew’s travel expenses to a location. The filmmakers can also change the lighting on-the-fly, and the background even shifts as the camera moves so that the perspective is never wonky. You can check out photos from The Mandalorian set HERE and see a video of the tech below.
