The Great Wall is a film that’s fallen under the public eye as of late. To some (including this writer, who wasn’t familiar with the Max Brooks book), it was a bit unexpected that a film entitled The Great Wall would actually be a more fantastical take on the historical wonder. In this world, the wall was created not to keep out just any enemies, but to keep a race of vicious monsters.

While the first trailer was a host to intrigue and well-directed action, the movie came under fire for being white-centric. In true Hollywood fashion, the lead character in a Chinese-based film was none other than a white male. Director Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers) since came out in defense of the film, saying that it actually features a handful of leads, and only one of which, Damon, was not Chinese.
Controversies aside, The Great Wall looks like it could be a fun, action-filled time at the movie theaters, and now Legendary and Universal have released a new, cool-looking poster for the film.

Check it out below:

The jury is obviously still out on whether or not this actually ends up being a good film, but if the trailers and this new poster are any indication, I think it’s something to look forward to. We know that Yimou can handle action scenes incredibly well, but let’s hope that the script from Tony Gilroy can stand up to the action.

Does this poster make you any more excited for the movie? Let us know in the comments down below!

The Great Wall hits theaters on February 17, 2017.
