According to the latest Barside Buzz The Punisher Season 1 and 2 are set to be canon, and referenced in Daredevil: Born Again. The info comes from Alex P of TCC on social media. Check out what he has to say.

Hearing that events from #ThePunisher S1 & S2 will be referenced in #DaredevilBornAgain. It will be handled similarly to how Fisk’s past was referenced in #Echo.

I won’t say I was the biggest fan of either season of The Punisher on Netflix. It was all a bit too slow and not enough punishing of criminals for me. That being said, Punisher was fantastic when he showed up in Daredevil Season 2. Therefore, this fan is hoping for more of that dynamic. In case you didn’t know, Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle within Daredevil: Born Again. As you’d guess, Bernthal is reunited with Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock.

I think canonising and using the backstory of the Netflix series was always the best way to go with this reboot.

I’m not sure this was the original plan for Daredevil: Born Again. However that does seem to be the plan for the new writers and directors who were brought in to finish the series. Born Again will be split into two parts, kinda like two seasons but costing Disney less due to the wording. The first part is due to resume filming soon after a long delay due to the strikes last year.

I guess if I had one criticism of Punisher so far its that he’s spending too much time fighting standard criminals he can smash. Where i especially enjoyed the comics was when Frank was up against a supervillain. Or wrongly targeting a hero. This always puts Frank at a disadvantage and we can see his strategies and gadgets in play. However so far this version of Frank has not full become the Punisher of the comics for me. Perhaps that will change as the character develops in the MCU?
