This epic tale, surpassing all expectations, takes flight in the upcoming Star Wars crossover event, STAR WARS: DARK DROIDS. However, the seeds of this gripping narrative have been sown in the pages of Marvel Star Wars comics over the past few months. Last week, StarWars.com unveiled the September covers, revealing that the Scourge’s existence poses a grave threat to both the Empire and the Rebels in its unyielding quest for power. Even Darth Vader, more machine than man, finds himself susceptible to the insidious corruption of the Scourge.
STAR WARS: DARK DROIDS will unfold as a main series crafted by writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross, the formidable duo behind other Star Wars comic crossover epics such as War of the Bounty Hunters. Additionally, there will be a spinoff limited series, STAR WARS: DARK DROIDS – D-SQUAD. The story will intertwine with four ongoing series that currently bridge the gap between the films The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi: STAR WARS, STAR WARS: DARTH VADER, STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA, and STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTERS.

This horror-infused narrative promises to be unlike any other in Star Wars history, as droids of various allegiances and roles fall under the influence of this new entity. The Scourge is the result of a fusion of two technologies introduced in both Doctor Aphra’s “The Spark Eternal” and Star Wars: Hidden Empire. The origin of this menacing threat was first hinted at in Star Wars: Revelations, where Ajax Sigma, a warrior droid with free will, attempted a droid revolution that was ruthlessly crushed by the Jedi during the High Republic era. In the recent Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca limited series, Han and Chewie embarked on a desperate mission to prevent Ajax’s remains from falling into the clutches of Jabba the Hutt. But why was Ajax of such importance to Jabba, and how does his significance tie into thwarting the Scourge? As the Spark Eternal makes contact with an ancient Sith-banned technology, no corner of the Star Wars galaxy will remain safe.
