Netflix announced today that The Witcher Season 3 filming has begun. Plus we have a new plot synopsis for the season. It’s not been that long since Season 2 burst onto Netflix and whilst I certainly enjoyed Season 2, there were a lot of criticisms for fans of the books being adapted. As someone who has only read the first few stories, I can at least say I enjoyed the Season perhaps from a place of semi-ignorance.
I do have a background knowledge of the entire series though, and I have hopes for this show as it grows. Check out the first BTS image from Season 3 below.

We also have an official Season 3 plot summary to ponder.
As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.

We really haven’t seen much of the family on show in the image above yet. That was one of the book fans gripes about Season 2. With Yennefer behaving how she did, why would Ciri learn to think of her as a mother? I therefore hope we really see this family dynamic developed more in Season 3.

As for when we might see The Witcher Season 3, who knows? Filming on Season 2 ended around a year ago, and we just got Season 2 in December of that year. Season 2 however was an unusually long shoot due to all the COVID issues and forced shutdowns. It’s possible that if filming goes to plan we could see Season 3 sometime early next year. However I cannot see us getting a nice December drop again this year. I just don’t think that will be possible.
Are you excited that The Witcher Season 3 filming begins? What do you think of the plot synopsis? Thoughts below as always.
