According to the latest Barside Buzz, Thor 5 is rumored to be in development and looking for a new director. In other words, it does not seem like Taika Waititi will be back for this next one. At least, that is what Daniel RPK is saying on his Patreon service. I will also point out that not every scoop posted on this Patreon has been through full verification checks. Thoughc, it has to be said this would match some previous rumblings around what comes next for Thor.

Whilst Thor: Love and Thunder was profitable it was not the same hit with audiences that Ragnarok had been. Personally, I liked Love and Thunder and I feel like I’d like Waititi to get the opportunity to go again.

Waititi took Thor in a new direction but to be fair, it was not one everyone loved. Some fans didn’t like that direction in Ragnarok and if so, they certainly didn’t like Love and Thunder. Yet, by far Ragnarok is Thor’s highest rated film by audiences and critics alike and the most successful at the box office. So if you’re wondering what kind of metric Marvel would use to decide who makes the next Thor movie, I have no idea?

If it was me I would at least be looking for a pitch from Waititi (unless he is not interested).

I guess if this does turn out to be legit the next question would be who comes in? Who is currently out there that would be a great fit to rejig Thor again for his fifth movie? I can’t honestly pull a name off the top of my head. There are certainly a ton of story opportunities for Thor and Love to go on some cool cosmic adventures. I guess it depends who has the coolest idea and then which director (if not also writing) can pull that pitch off.

I think there’s plenty of life left in Thor yet. Hemsworth still looks like a young man, it’s still his biggest wage day, and the character is kinda ageless. Eventually they may have to reboot Thor, or find a way to have the character age dramatically off screen. However, we are not there yet.
