Tom Hanks reportedly In Talks To Play Geppetto In Live-Action Pinocchio

Actor Tom Hanks is approaching Hollywood legend status, if he not be there already. Hanks has starred in some of cinema’s most memorable films as some of the most beloved characters of all-time. Including Forrest Gump, Fred Rogers, and Walt Disney. What’s next for the two-time Academy Award winner?

Well, according to Deadline, Hanks is in talks with the House of Mouse to play the father of Pinocchio, Geppetto. Hanks is in negotiations to be part of the upcoming live-action remake of the animated Disney classic. If everything falls into place Hanks will be reunited with Forrest Gump Director Robert Zemeckis, who is attached to direct the remake.

I can tell you that Pinocchio was never my favorite Disney film. I just found it disturbing at times, especially the whole donkey island sequence, no thanks. However, I understand why it holds the status it does, and appreciate it as a film geek, but not on a personal level.

To me, it’s similar to the scene in Dumbo where he gets drunk and the psychedelic fun takes over from there. While I enjoy Dumbo far more as a whole, ugh, that drunken elephant scene gives me the same feeling as most of Pinocchio does.

Having said all I did above, I honestly don’t think there’s a better choice for Geppetto than Tom Hanks. Sure, there are other actors who could pull it off and even give viewers a performance that won’t be soon forgotten. One of name that comes to mind, and hear me out, J.K. Simmons.

How do you feel about Tom Hanks as Geppetto, is there another actor you think would be better in the role? Let us know in the comments down below!
