If you’re hungry for the latest offering from José Padilha, the man behind the Netflix original series Narcos, then look no further. Netflix is delivering the goods once again in his new series, The Mechanism. Check out the new trailer above.
Below is the official synopsis for The Mechanism:
“Get ready to join a small group of dogged investigators on the hunt to discover the inner workings of the biggest corruption scheme of all time and the impact their pursuit will have on everyone involved – including themselves. From José Padilha (Narcos, Elite Squad 1 & 2, RoboCop) and Elena Soarez (Filhos do Carnaval, Eu Tu Eles, Casa de Areia).”
Like Narcos, The Mechanism looks to be dark, gritty thriller that delves into a seedy underworld that many of us are all too happy to be removed from. While this looks like a solid show, I have to say, it does bear quite the striking resemblance to Narcos, and I can’t help but wonder how this show will set itself apart.
That being said, so long as the show tells a story and tells it well, it’s not like it needs to go in and reinvent the wheel every single time. As Netflix has proven, audience hunger for stories like this voracious, and so long as the backbone of the story is there, there’s no reason shows like this can’t continue to be successful.
The Mechanism hits Netflix on March 23, 2018.
