What Was The Cause For Studio Interference On Suicide Squad?

Studio interference on Suicide Squad destroyed the movie, but why were WB so keen to change the movie? Director David Ayer dishes the dirt. Read on for more details.

Suicide Squad was a disaster of a movie, I struggled to get through it in one sitting. However, everyone knew the movie fans got was the result of WB scheduling extensive reshoots. The aim of these reshoots seemed to be give Suicide Squad more of a comedy feel. It didn’t work.

Now on the back of calls for the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, Director David Ayer has explained just what caused the change of tone in his movie. Specifically, Suicide Squad became the film it was on the back of two other movies. Those movies were BvS, and surprisingly Fox’s Deadpool. Ayer also points to the “I Started a Joke” trailer from Comic-Con 2015 as the real tone of his original cut. If you haven’t seen that yet, check it out below!

It’s hardly surprising that backlash over BvS influenced WB. However, Deadpool having an influence is a little more surprising. Deadpool and Suicide Squad are very different properties after all? What this does prove is just how out of touch WB was with their creative people on this movie. As well as showing how little faith WB showed in Ayer’s pitch.

Honestly, this is what is wrong at WB and has been for some time. The question remains whether WB has learned from their mistakes of the past, or not. If WB has learned some lessons then we could see a brighter future for the DCEU. If not, well, at least we have Marvel eh? As for Suicide Squad, I’ll never watch the theatrical version again, but if we do get an Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, I’d have to check that out.

What do you think of Ayer’s explanation for studio interference on Suicide Squad? Leave your thoughts below if you can.
