Will Elsa Get a Girlfriend in ‘FROZEN’ Sequel?

Sounds like the gears of progress may be working their way in Disney’s upcoming FROZEN 2. While there has been no word from Disney regarding Elsa’s sexual orientation, it sounds like many fans out there desperately want to see the character come out of the closet in the next FROZEN film.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a fan petition out there that goes under the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, and while this is by no means official by any stretch of the imagination, we know now at the very least that FROZEN actress Idina Menzel has heard the cries. In a recent interview with ET Online, the film actress and Broadway star expressed her support for the campaign.

“I think it’s great. Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out. No matter what, [Elsa] changed my life.”

If Menzel has heard the cries, you can rest assured that Disney has likely heard them as well. While a move like this may seem pretty drastic, the original FROZEN already did a great job in subverting gender stereotypes, and in our increasingly accepting world, giving Elsa a female love interest really isn’t too much of a stretch. Though while Disney may hear the cries, that still doesn’t necessarily mean it falls in line with the story they want to tell.

Of course, this would be a hilariously fitting turn of events. As harmless as the song “Let it Go” was in the original FROZEN, there were plenty of folks who felt it was “pushing the gay agenda.” Were Elsa to actually get a girlfriend in the sequel, that would actually give an extra layer of meaning to that song many felt was there to begin with.

What do you think? Should Disney let Elsa come out as gay in the sequel? Can Disney make such a bold move like that in today’s social climate without the world imploding? Let us know your thoughts down below — and please try and be as respectful as possible.
