Earlier this year, Netflix produced the documentary The Legend Of Cocaine Island. The doc followed a father who becomes infatuated with he legend of a hurried stash of cocaine located somewhere in the Caribbean. Having been wiped out by the recession and with the total amount of cocaine rumored to be worth $2 million, the family man gathers together a group in an attempt to locate the treasure. Now, that documentary will be adapted into a major motion picture procduced by and starring Will Ferrell.

This will be Ferrell’s first big project after parting ways with longtime creative partner writer/director Adam McKay (The Big Short, Step Brothers). However, the two will still serve as co-executive producers of the excellent HBO drama series Succession. The script for The Legend Of Cocaine Island will be penned by Peter Steinfeld, who’s credits include Analyze That, Be Cool, and 21. Joining Ferrell as producers will be Jessica Elbaum (Booksmart, Hustlers, Netflix’s Dead To Me) and David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge, Youth In Revolt).

This is the first of a number of projects Ferrell is involved in due to be released in the very near future. Next, he stars along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the marital comedy Downhill, which is based on the acclaimed Swedish film Force Majeure. Also, Ferrell just wrapped the Netflix comedy Eurovision, which pairs him alongside his past Wedding Crashers cast mate Rachel McAdams. Additionally, he is also attached to star in the Amazon movie Prince of Fashion,
