Writer Hossein Amini On The Upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

With The Mandalorian just a few days away, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker right around the corner, Star Wars fans have a full plate for the time being. Those two projects are going to be huge within a galaxy far, far away, as The Rise of Skywalker will bring an end to not only Disney’s sequel trilogy but to the nine-film Skywalker Saga as well. The Mandalorian will be the first-ever live-action Star Wars series.

However, once these projects have come and gone, it’s likely all attention will turn to the long-hoped-for and now a reality, Obi-Wan Kenobi series that will bring back one of the best parts of the prequel trilogy in actor Ewan McGregor. Writer Hossein Amini will soon be working on the series and he recently spoke with DiscussingFilm, you can check out what he had to say about the upcoming Disney+ series below.

“I can’t say very much. The plan is to start shooting in July, Ewan McGregor is signed on. I think he’s already said that it spans the period between episodes 3 and 4, so sort of after the fall of the republic and the massacre of the Jedi before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s fascinating in the sense that it’s a period where there is a lot of change in the galaxy and a lot of hardship. So, for Obi Wan’s character, he has a lot to adjust to given the loss of his close friends and the order that he believed in. It felt like a really exciting opportunity to explore a different side of a franchise that I always loved and I’ve always loved it because of its spiritual aspects as well as its fun and action elements, it seems to work on way more than one level which isn’t always true for those big franchises.”

I love McGregor as Obi-Wan, as bad as the films may be, there are still parts of them I love, and he’s one of them. John Williams’ score is another aspect I find to be great. Anyone who watched Star Wars Rebels got a small glimpse into this time period in Obi-Wan’s life, and we even saw a young Luke Skywalker running home for dinner.

Who knows the adventures we’re about to go on with Old Ben Kenobi, but one thing is for sure, they’re sure to be both classy and elegant.
