After the big shake up at DC Studios, Zachary Levi gives an update on his DCU status going forward. Cut a long story short, and Levi says as far as he knows he is still Shazam. As yet Levi says he’s had no exit discussions with DC bosses Peter Saffran and Jame Gunn. However, one wonders if that chat just hasn’t happened yet?
Levi posted on Instagram and had this to say.
“I’m not the boss, I have no idea what the heck is ultimately going on, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that…” Levi said, in part, during an Instagram Live. “Listen, I loved Walter Hamada. I loved him as a boss, I love him as a human being, and I hope to work with him wherever he goes. But I couldn’t have hand chosen two better people to be the people that are now helping to guide where the DC Universe is going.”
“At this point right now, I’m still that character. I have not had any outgoing conversations with the bosses. We have a movie that’s literally coming out in March,” Levi continued. “…I have no idea what’s going to ultimately happen to me. I think I’m in a pretty good position…”

For now, Levi has Shazam: Fury of the Gods releasing in 2023. However, if the DCEU is being rebooted into the DCU and everyone else is being recast, why would Levi be sticking around as Shazam? No Cavill, likely no gal Gadot, nor Ben Affleck. It’s highly likely that Ezra Miller is out also, and so is Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam (see related link above).
However for now, there is no official news on that. My guess is that WB will want to see how Shazam: Fury of the Gods fares before making that call. Or, if the decision has already been made, maybe it won’t be announced till that sequel hits theatres?
Though, that is all speculation on my part. We have to wait for some official news, and so far this is the most up to date copy we have.
What do you think of his comments as Zachary Levi gives an update on his DCU status going forward? Thoughts below as always.
