Well, that didn’t take long. It was announced a short while ago that David Fincher had walked away from his planned biopic on Steve Jobs, over issues of money and control, and it now looks like Sony Pictures is set to rebound fairly nicely. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story today that Danny Boyle- the director behind such films as Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 127 Hours, and 28 Days Later– is in talks to take over the project. That’s not all. While Fincher had been eyeing Christian Bale for the title role, Boyle is said to have approached Leonardo DiCaprio.

You may recall that there was all ready an attempt to capitalize on the visionary tech giant, which starred Ashton Kutcher and was directed by Joshua Michael Stern. But jOBS was a swing and a miss. The film flopped at the box office, and was savaged by critics. But if Boyle is able to land his The Beach star, DiCaprio, that would be quite a formidable team- and one sure to find greater success. DiCaprio is no stranger to biopics, having all ready portrayed real people in The Basketball Diaries, The Aviator, Catch Me If You Can,J. Edgar, and most recently in The Wolf of Wall Street- for which he received an Academy Award nomination.

THR is quick to point out, though, that there’s no deal in place yet. DiCaprio is presently committed to star in Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu’s thriller The Revenant, and it’s unclear how his schedule would accommodate both projects.

This take on Jobs’s exploits was scripted by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography on the Apple mogul. So while some may be bummed not to see the Social Network duo of Sorkin and Fincher together again, having Boyle behind the camera and DiCaprio in front of it should surely take the sting off.

More as it develops.
