According to THR Chloe Zhao NOT directing a Star Wars movie. We covered a rumor from two leakers we trust here at LRM and those reports said Zhao was close to signing on to direct Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie. At the time I said this was no surprise as Zhao’s own comments seemed to hint that talks were ongoing. However since those reports THR have said it’s not happening. Here is the simple statement at the end of a recent THR update.
And finally, we’ve been hearing this one all week, but insiders insist that no, Chloé Zhao is not directing Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie, or any Star Wars movie.
Ok, so this story wasn’t quite right then. Yet, Zhao’s own comments (see all links below) appear to indicate she would indeed be interested. Zhao already said if Kevin asks her she would say yes. There are a few possibilities here.
One that by sheer luck, both BSL and Jordan Maison received a report from their sources who decided to BS them both at the same time with the same story? Or, that Disney leaked some bad information to try and target where some leaks were coming from? Alternatively perhaps Zhao was in talks to direct this movie, but things fell through? Lastly, Zhao could still be in talks for this movie, but since she hasn’t signed on the information given to THR is accurate at time of writing?

I find the first one the hardest to buy here.
Yet, that is what many (not all) in the fan community seem to automatically assume is the answer. Since the disappointing no-show of Star Wars at Disney+ Day I have seen several good insiders receive some awful attacks from Star Wars fans. I think it’s anger at being excited to see something, and getting nothing. Since they can’t be angry at Disney, it’s sent towards insiders. Both BSL and Jordan Maison have acknowledged THR‘s article and said, ‘fair enough, we were wrong’. Both, along with SWNN, have done the same regarding the content supposed to be shown at Disney+ Day. So far since we never covered any of these stories as our own, we are not being attacked by fans on social media. Lucky us eh?
However, I am prepared to put my neck on the line here, because the truth is, we heard the same news about what was supposed to be covered on Disney+ Day. We never reported that, as there was no point, it was already covered by others. But we did hear the same thing. Now we have to ask ourselves what we believe happened? That’s four separate outlets with proven insiders who all heard the same thing and then it didn’t happen. Yet, title cards showing all the shows covered also strangely had one for both Andor and The Bad Batch Season 2. Why is that?

Now some Star Wars fans get how this all works, leaking information is an aggregate game, not an all or nothing game. Every single insider out there will at some point get a story wrong. I don’t care who they are, they’ve all got things wrong. The reason? Because things change behind the scenes after that information has gotten out. So all those posts I saw on social media calling good people liars and fakers is really nothing more than a nasty anger release. I’ve seen arguments where if a leaker gets one thing wrong they are full of BS and all the many things they got right were all just lucky guesses. Yeah, so that’s statistically more likely than the other way around, yeah? Jeez, some people didn’t stick in at Math class.

Ok, Chloe Zhao not directing a Star Wars movie! This was, for now at least, a bad rumor. However I show solidarity with those being battered on social media because it’s simply how this game works. Do what we do before deciding whether to keep covering a source, go by their overall hit rate. No one has 100% unless they just started.
Anyway, this has been my feeble and futile attempt to educate people who use social media. What do you think of the news Chloe Zhao not directing a Star Wars movie, for Kevin Feige or anyone else? What do you think of how the fan base are treating insiders? Either way, leave any thoughts you have below folks.
