Actor Ray Fisher took to his Twitch account to describe two very different auditioning experiences. They were for two roles, in what was at the time, major upcoming movies. Fisher auditioned for and ended up being cast as Cyborg in Justice League. He was also reported to have tried out for the male lead role in what would become The Force Awakens.
As the actor explains below, the two auditions were vastly different. You can check out what he had to say below.
“Like I’ve said, I did not audition in any intense capacity for Star Wars,. In fact I wasn’t even technically made aware what the stuff was that I was reading. I don’t think it went further than me putting something on tape and having that be that. But with respect to Justice League we had an audition process, went an met with folks involved in production, we had a testing process and all that stuff. So I would say my experience Star Wars was probably the equivalent of like maybe first step, a baby step of what a process would be, and my experience with Justice League would be taking it all the way.”

This is the first time I’ve heard of this sort of audition, where the actor knows very little, perhaps only what is necessary for them to read. When an actor isn’t told the role or even the film they’re trying out for, I would imagine it makes getting into character nearly impossible. Ray Fisher is a fine actor and played an excellent Cyborg in my opinion. It’s hard to imagine anyone else as Finn other than John Boyega. Though I think Fisher would have done well in the role.
