Daisy Ridley Has No Idea Yet If Any Other Sequel Characters Are In Star Wars Rey Sequel

In a recent interview Daisy Ridley says she has no idea yet if any other sequel trilogy characters are in her Star Wars Rey sequel movie. Ridley spoke to Variety about her upcoming project Sometimes I think About Dying. Unsurprisingly talked turned to Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The trade asked Ridley about the impact of working with the franchises first female director? Which, is only a true statement if we are talking movies alone. As we all know Star Wars has now had several female directors for the Disney+ series. One directing an entire series (Chow) and one showrunning a series as head writer (Headland). I think rather wisely Ridley deflected the question and explained why she was excited for the movie.

“The short answer is I don’t know. I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman. Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as shit. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, “OK, call me in five years.” But it’s worthwhile.”

Obaid-Chinoy is not the script writer of this movie. However, perhaps the overall pitch she had was what attracted Lucasfilm? The script is currently being retooled by Steven Knight after Lucasfilm and previous writer Damon Lindelof parted ways over creative differences. Though, far as we know Obaid-Chinoy was hired whilst Lindelof was still writing. Perhaps Ridley’s statement just means it was Obaid-Chinoy who filled her in on the basic story they are going for?

Alternatively it may well have been Sharmeen who pushed to have this story happen in a time where Ridley could reprise her role? Remember, we’ve heard Lindelof’s version had a much older Rey. This Rey would have been played by an older actress, seemingly Helen Mirren being the archetype they were going for.

Other Sequel Trilogy Characters?

One thing we don’t know is whether Rey will return on her own, or whether any of her co-stars from the sequels will be back? Rumors have said that Lucasfilm would like Boyega to return. Since Rey is training Jedi, it would make sense to see a fully trained Finn show up. It could also lead to Finn getting his own movie set in this period? However, it is currently unclear whether Boyega wants a return or not?

As for Ridley, she has no idea. We know there’s no finalised script yet, so Ridley is in the dark about who could return. The Rey actor was asked if it would feel weird to make a Star Wars movie without Boyega and Isaac?

“No, because I don’t know what is what or who is who [in the new movie]. So much has happened for me [since the Skywalker saga]. I feel like a grown-up now. When I first started, I was, like, 20. I was the youngest on set. It took me the first two “Star Wars” films to feel worthy of being there. Now I’m in my 30s. The whole thing feels quite different. I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers, and hopefully, I’ve got better as a performer.”

Clearly Ridley is up for this either way. Therefore, the rest is down to what Lucasfilm decides and what the other actors agree to. When all this will come to fruition? For now it depends when the new script comes back and whether Lucasfilm is happy with it.

What do you think of her comments as Daisy Ridley says she has no idea yet if any other sequel trilogy characters are in her Star Wars Rey sequel movie? Thoughts below as usual.
