Ernie Hudson Wants A Role In The MCU – Was Told T’Chaka Wasn’t Big Enough

I love me a bit of Ernie Hudson, the veteran actor is entrenched in movies geekdom just for Ghostbusters alone. Well Ernie Hudson wants a role in the MCU! The MCU seems to be ever expanding and there are seemingly many actors who would love to become a part of that Marvel family. Hudson has gone one step further it seems and actively campaigned to get into the MCU.

Hudson spoke with ComicBook.com recently, and the actor said he has reached out to Marvel Studios.

“Louis D’Esposito, who’s co-president over at Marvel [Studios], I keep sending him texts and it’s like, ‘Hey, I’m here and I’m available.’ And I’m not very good at begging. You know what I mean? I don’t know how to do that well. I’ve been a fan of the Marvel universe and DC [movies]. I love that stuff. I grew up with a lot of it, but it hasn’t been from a lack of desire on my part.”

Hudson then went on to say he specifically enquired about the role of T’Chaka in Black Panther. The role of T’Challa’s father ultimately went to John Kani. However, Hudson says that Marvel told him the role wasn’t big enough for him.

“First it was the dad in Black Panther. So I kind of hinted [at it] — I went a little beyond hinting. The fans started to pick it up. So I called and I said, ‘Well, you know there’s the part of the dad.’ He said, ‘Well, that part is too small for you.’ So that didn’t work out. So, something will come out and I’ll send him a text like, ‘I really loved it. Congratulations on that. Wow. It would’ve been really, really great to be in that one.’ And they’re amazing over there. Stan Lee was a friend. We at least knew each other, we’d spend time at different conventions talking. Kind of hinted to him. But I don’t know. You never know, short of going to somebody’s house and [asking].”

The fact we hear from so many actors who want to appear in the MCU is great for Marvel Studios. Any part they dream up, they can be like, ‘hey, what about Ernie Hudson?’, and they’ll know he’s gonna say yes. Something that’s probably true for a lot of actors in Hollywood and beyond. As for who would be great for Hudson to play, I can’t think off the top of my head. I did read some fans on social media saying Hudson would be a great fit for the Blue Marvel character. Full disclosure, I had never even heard of that character before, so I can’t really comment.

Clearly Hudson would need to play an older character, he’s not quite as spry as the picture above. However, look at some of the great roles Marvel have used veteran actors for in the MCU. There are a million places Hudson could show up and we’d be like, ‘It’s Ernieeeee!’ So please Marvel, make this happen, I can’t be alone in wanting to see Hudson in the MCU, and the man is keen.

Ernie Hudson wants a role in the MCU, so who would you like to see him play? Leave your thoughts below in the usual spot.
