Game Of Thrones – Why Sansa Stark Had To Marry That One Guy

While the HBO series known as Game of Thrones will, to me, always be the official version of George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy story A Song of Ice and Fire, I do understand the novels were where events first went down, the original versions of the story put down years before the show, yet, are alternate versions to me, and many others I’m sure. When novels get adapted aspects change. This gets added, that gets thrown out.

Martin has seen his story be altered throughout the show’s run. He recently spoke with Rolling Stone and discussed one of the more significant differences from Sansa Stark’s story in the novels as opposed to the show. You can check out what GRRM had to say below.

“Well, yeah — of course you have an emotional reaction. I mean, would I prefer they do it exactly the way I did it? Sure. But I’ve been on the other side of it, too. I’ve adapted work by other people, and I didn’t do it exactly the way they did it, so…

“Some of the deviation, of course, is because I’ve been so slow with these books. I really should’ve finished this thing four years ago — and if I had, maybe it would be telling a different story here. It’s two variations of the same story, or a similar story, and you get that whenever anything is adapted.”

I haven’t read the books, but if I understand it correctly, in the novels Ramsay marries Jeyne Poole, who is posing as Arya Stark? Interesting. And Sansa is still up at the Eryie when A Feast for Crows ends, and doesn’t appear in A Dance with Dragons, though a POV chapter may have been written for her but was not included in the novel and may appear in the upcoming The Winds of Winter. A decision on her character had to be made for the show, unfortunately for Sansa, that decision involved her being wed to Ramsay Bolton. She made her way out of awful situation and is now Lady of Winterfell.

Bold prediction time (just me throwing some wild s**t out there)!

I think Daenerys is growing increasingly mad. At some point, Drogon is killed by Viserion (maybe they even take each other out) in aerial WWII-style dog fight with dragons. This will be too much for her and will be what sends her over the edge.

Arya will kill the Night King wearing the face of one of his generals.

Jaime and Bran will perform covers of Matchbox 20’s, “Push” and Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’, in the Winterfell courtyard.

I will assume you all have some predictions of your own, the best comment will win “A Night on the Phone With Kyle Malone,” meaning LRM‘s own Kyle Malone will watch a movie (up to R-rating) of your choosing with you, over the phone.
