A few weeks back, we shared the exciting news that The Way of Kings Prime could be getting an audiobook. This announcement came from Brandon Sanderson himself through a livestream — but it would only come if the Way of Kings leatherbound edition Kickstarter hit $7 million. This was an ambitious goal, to say the least, and when the Kickstarter ended, they didn’t quite make the goal. When all said and done, there were still a few hundred thousand dollars left they needed to make before an audiobook would be possible.

But author Brandon Sanderson gave fans some real hope when the potential audiobook was announced. He said that they would include add-ons, which would be possible to purchase after the campaign officially ended. The extra money spent would go toward the $7 million goal. 

Earlier today, backers received emails regarding add-ons and other backer-specific questions. It appears that those add-ons have made all the difference. As of this writing — according to their official The Way of Kings Leatherbound Edition Kickstarter campaign page — they have surpassed $7 million. In fact, they have jumped way past that for $7,139,22. And that’s only as of this writing.

As soon as other backers complete their necessary surveys, they will reach even greater heights. If you are one of those backers, consider this your reminder to check your email, as you will be able to pick your desired Knights Radiant order. You can also buy add-ons such as the hardcover for The Way of Kings Prime.

But, of course, with $7 million now surpassed, we can now enjoy the upcoming audiobook. It will be read by series narrators Kate Reading and Michael Kramer. In other words, it’ll be given a treatment on the level of pretty much any other book he’s put out officially. As Sanderson stated in the past, the audiobook will be available for all to enjoy for free, though the exact methods by which it’ll be available remain to be seen.
