One of the creative minds behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe is delving back into one his sleeper hit films with his upcoming Netflix series The Chef Show. Check out the trailer above, which was released this past Sunday.
For background: in 2014, Favreau wrote, directed, and starred in the comedy/drama Chef, the tale of a head chef who quits his job and opens up a food truck in an attempt to reclaim his creativity and piece back together his estranged family. With an abundance of talented performers including John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, Bobby Cannavale, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Amy Sedaris, and Robert Downey, Jr., the film hit a certified fresh 87% and 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. With a perfect blend of the wisecracking humor the likes of Favreau, Leguizamo and RDJ are known for, dramatic family elements and capitalizing on the hype behind food trucks/cuisine shows, Chef is a well-rounded, perfectly executed feel-good film… but its rated R for language, so don’t watch it with little kids.
Recapturing the magic behind that film, The Chef Show is a food-related talk show where Favreau teams up with Roy Choi (owner of the Kogi food truck in Los Angeles) to talk about the connection food has to culture, family, and friends. As seen in the trailer, the series will feature a number of special guests including MCU alumni RDJ, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Holland, and the Russo Brothers, as well as comedian Bill Burr and director Robert Rodriguez. As a loyal Favreau fanboy and fan of Chef (as well as having a bit of a man-crush on RDJ… admitting it is the first step), this writer will be ready to enjoy every second of this series.
The Chef Show premieres Friday, June 7th on Netflix.
