Longstanding Marvel Exec Victoria Alonso Parts Company With Marvel Studios

According to sources at Variety, Marvel has had talks about bringing back the OG Avengers as the current MCU crisis spirals.

According to THR, longstanding Marvel exec Victoria Alonso parts company with Marvel Studios. Alonso has been involved with the MCU since before Iron Man and began as VFX and post-production chief. However with Marvel’s runaway success Alonso was promoted to exec producer and served on all the big hits like Infinity War and Endgame.

Currently no reason has been given for this change in the status quo. However we do have some rumors I will get into. Here is what the trade had to say.

‘Victoria Alonso, the longtime and high-profile Marvel Studios executive whose time with the company dates back to the first Iron Man, has left the studio, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The reasons for the exit are unclear, but she parted ways with Marvel on Friday, sources say.’

Execs leave for new jobs all the time. Normally this would be because Alonso was offered a better deal elsewhere. However that’s not the Barside Buzz. Rumors are that many of the MCU’s latest problems, many of which have been caused by poor VFX created by overworked team are falling at Alonso’s door. Back some time ago, when we first heard about all the problems Marvel was having with VFX houses, Vulture ran a report where they spoke to anonymous staff at some of these VFX studios. Remember that the story was these firms were overworked and underpaid. However the following quote is very interesting if accurate.

‘Victoria Alonso, who serves as President of Physical, Post Production, VFX and Animation for Marvel Studios, was cited by some as the problem. This included a Vancouver-based VFX tech who has vowed never to work for Marvel again. “The main one that everyone’s quite scared of is Victoria Alonso,” they said. “She is known in the industry as a kingmaker. If she likes you, you are going to get work and move up in the industry. If you have pissed her off in any way, you’re going to get frozen out.”

Is it therefore possible Alonso has effectively been removed due to some internal issues? For now I won’t claim such a thing. However as soon as I heard this news, my mind went back to this old report and started making connections. Does that mean I’m right? Nope, but it’s hard to argue there’s potentially a connection here.

Longstanding Marvel exec Victoria Alonso parts company with Marvel Studios. For now we don’t know why, but if there is a fire, then we should have seen it for all this smoke. As always, let us know what you think below?
