Marvel Avengers Players Are Bored, New Content On The Way

Marvel’s Avengers launched over a month ago to a big success. Gamers were thriving for something new and exciting since Covid-19 left us at home to play games. Initially gamers were excited and impressed with the concept and gameplay but that has now waned. The problem is that the studio heads at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics did not expect for so many players to get through all the content so fast.

Community boards and social media messages have been coming in about when can we expect new content for the game. Most of the messages have a similar theme, they are tired of playing the same missions over and over. Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos announced earlier that more content, including new players, missions, and a new hub would be released in the coming weeks.

Marvel’s Avengers is starting to remind me of Star Wars Galaxy Of Heroes where earlier this year players were complaining about the lack of new content.  It took all the way up to this month for new characters and mechanics to be introduced in the game. But by then players had started to leave the game and only the most loyal players have stayed on. Avengers is in the same boat, the initial excitement is over and gamers are looking for something new to play. According to Steam charts Avengers playerbase is less than 2,000 players online.

It seems that more people are expressing their frustration of the lack of new content. Even Mike Fahey at Kotaku reached out to Crystal Dynamics to get a response from the lack of new content and diminishing multiplayer base. Studio head Scot Amos, responded back with the typical political response. He talked about some new missions along with new story content.  The biggest news was the upcoming characters coming to the game, Kate Bishop and Clint Barton, Marvel’s two Hawkeyes. But of course he didn’t provide any specifics to when we will actually get this content.

Marvel Avengers Hawkeye

Here’s Amos’ response in full to Mike Fahey:

To our players: every day we fight to make the best game possible for our community. We have a great community management team at Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix who funnel all of your concerns, suggestions, and feedback to the development team daily. We are listening. We are making fixes, improvements, and additions as fast as we safely can to make Marvel’s Avengers the game we all aspire it to be.

As such, we have a number of new content pieces coming in the weeks ahead including: a totally new War Zone mission type called Tachyon Rifts, a new Outpost that’s a jumping off point for new story missions in the future, and AIM’s Cloning Lab, which requires a coordinated high-level group of four players to beat with new top-end loot rewards for finishing it. And in each of these updates we do tuning and bug fixing to enhance the overall experience.

In addition, we’ve announced two new Heroes coming in the near future: Kate Bishop in Operation: Taking AIM, and after that the double-feature Operation starring Clint Barton… this is the “two Hawkeyes” we mentioned in the last War Table. These new Operations pick up right from where the main Reassemble campaign ended in the core game and will propel the overall world story forward with new mysteries and villains, as well as new multi-player content.

Lastly, we will continue to add new content to the game in the coming months as we address issues and overall game balance, including loot distribution and quality of life features everyone is clamoring for to improve our day-to-day experience from accessibility to co-op communication tools to balancing the economy!

We are confident that we’ll see PC players (as well as those on Xbox One and PlayStation 4) return to the game as we add exciting new late-game content and demonstrate that we continue to be focused on improving the game.

We’ll have more information and details about the very near content drops in a blog scheduled for next week and we have new community communication initiatives coming soon to even more directly share fun and useful information with you.

Thank you for coming with us on this journey to truly realize the best of what Marvel’s Avengers can become.

What Does This Mean?

Basically, if you are bored and over playing Marvel Avengers then don’t expect anything new for a while.  It seems that the original concept for the multiplayer aspect of Avengers is not living up to the current product. Looks like until there is a massive update more players will continue to leave the game.
