The Jawdropping Spoilers That George R.R. Martin Told Benioff And Weiss During Their 2013 Meeting

Once Game of Thrones caught up to the A Song of Ice and Fire novels the series is based on, author George R.R. Martin would have to let showrunners in on some secrets. In 2013 Martin met with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and told them some major story points he had planned. Including who would sit on the Iron Throne.

The book Fire Cannot Kill A Dragon: Game of Thrones and the Official Untold Story of the Epic Series reveals that the meeting led to three rather shocking reveals by Martin. You can check them out below.

“It wasn’t easy for me. I didn’t want to give away my books. It’s not easy to talk about the end of my books. Every character has a different end. I told them who would be on the Iron Throne, and I told them some big twists like Hodor and ‘hold the door,’ and Stannis’s decision to burn his daughter. We didn’t get to everybody by any means. Especially the minor characters, who mau have very different endings.”

Martin had believed he ould finish the final two novels in the series before the show. Unfortunately for Martin, he wasn’t able to beat the show to the finish line. Martin is still working on The Winds of Winter, the book began writing when Game of Thrones started airing,

It’s a shame Martin wasn’t able to complete the novels and have his version of the story released first. While some major events are the same, the story may take a different path to get to the same point. And some will be nothing like he show.

I never really had an issue with Bran the Broken, or the overall story of Season 8. My issues stem from the presentation and pace. he story wasn’t the problem, it was the way the story was told. A huge miscalculation by Benioff and Weiss in the number of episodes they needed. Or perhaps they knew it wasn’t enough and wanted to be done with the show.
