The latest Barside Buzz is that Marvel is recasting Black Panther and that one unnamed star has already turned down the role. Jeff Sneider reports on his The Insneider newsletter that Marvel is looking to re-cast ‘T’Challa’. Five years after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
“With Marvel reshuffling the deck in advance of ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ and Robert Downey Jr. coming back not as Iron Man but as Doctor Doom, I’m told that the door is firmly open for T’Challa to be recast via the magic of the multiverse.”
“I heard that an actor was actually offered the role this past fall. A couple of months after Downey’s big reveal at Comic-Con, but they turned it down, not wanting to jeopardize their career momentum by stepping into Boseman’s gigantic shoes. hich may be too big to fill, even for Hollywood’s most talented Black actors.”
“Now, it’s unclear whether T’Challa will appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ but I think it’s fair to assume that whoever is cast as the character will reprise the role in ‘Black Panther 3.‘ Which, has been discussed by everyone from Ryan Coogler to Denzel Washington.”

Some other, I have to say less reliable insiders claim that Sneider has T’Challa wrong. This is instead casting for an aged up Toussaint, the son of T’Challa, AKA T’Challa II. I have to say, that would make far more sense to me.
We saw how Coogler and the rest of Marvel decided to deal with the death of Boseman in Wakanda Forever. I really can’t see this being an alternate T’Challa after that. The magically aged up T’Challa II sounds more reasonable and acceptable to those involved. Frankly, I thought Wakanda Forever disappointing and I don’t think Shuri is a lead character. Shuri being the tech advisor in the chair making toys was a far better dynamic. But perhaps that is just for me?
